Gestalt : Closure

Closure is where we fill in the gaps and mentally see a complete image.

We perceived the two maroon elements, each as one circle although in neither case is the outline of the circle completely closed.

Closure lends itself to the creation of logos. From complete images we can create a few simple shapes, which when arranged correctly will be viewed as one whole object. Even though the bird and the panda do not have complete outlines we definately know what they are. The penquin (from the Pittsburgh Penquin's logo 1993 -2000) is even more abstracted than the panda but we still recognize it as a penquin.
